The Library of the Institute of Migration is a specialist library, dealing
with research publications on international and internal migration and other
related issues. The Library receives copies of most overseas Finnish
periodicals, published in many parts of the world, as well as a wide range of
specialist periodicals. The Library is primarily intended as a reference
library, but titles are also issued on loan to persons outside the Institute
staff.

In Januari 2008 the library had ca. 10,000 publications on migration. The library catalogue is computerized and accessible on the Internet since 1999. In the beginning of 2008 the computer database featured almost 9,000 posts. Older publications can be found manually in the card files.
Hundreds of loans are made each year and the number is steadily increasing. The library also receives numerous inquiries on source references and research. It is also an important source used by the institute's own researcher.
Except books and publication series, the library subscribes to 38 newspapers and periodicals published by Finns abroad, 34 periodicals on migration and 66 other newspapers and periodicals. The library also has a large collection of fiction written by emigrants, genealogical
publications and a large scrapbook collection on migration.
Librarian Kirsi Sainio, who also is the editorial
secretary of the Institute's periodical Siirtolaisuus-Migration, is in charge of the library.
